Reviewer Loses Job Over Wolverine Review
|
Fox News has fired an entertainment blogger Roger Friedman who wrote for FoxNews.com, after he published a review of the Wolverine movie (released, of course, by Fox) based on a one of the pirated copies that have been doing the rounds. And he even gave it a good review: " I am, in fact, amazed about how great Wolverine turned out. It exceeds expectations at every turn ... It’s miles easier to understand than The Dark Knight, and tremendously more emotional ... A couple of times it was possible to see the harnesses on the actors. It didn’t take away from the film at all." Though you do have to question the validity of the opinions expressed by someone who a) found The Dark Knight hard to understand and b) is stupid enough to admit to watching a pirate copy of film produced by his own employers. Fox released a statement saying: “Roger Friedman’s views in no way reflect the views of News Corporation. We, along with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, have been a consistent leader in the fight against piracy and have zero tolerance for any action that encourages and promotes piracy. When we advised Fox News of the facts they took immediate action, removed the post, and promptly terminated Mr. Friedman." |

So one can watch it but have to shut up about it?
They should be happy with all the extra attention this movie gets.

Heres my review of the film based on Trailers and posters. The film has a good understanding of the emotional backstory of Wolverine and expands on it slightly however viewers will find it lacks a decent plot. Round every corner in this film viewers will spot more Mutants some hidden in the background some only refered to by name. The essential mutants Wolverine and Sabertooth have very little fights in this film. He has one short fight sequence after he escapes from the lab and another in the middle of the film.
I found this annoying as the whole plot of Wolverine was going to be to show Wolverines complex relationship with Sabertooth. There fights are taken with the introduction of extra plotlines such as how Wolverine came to be at the wrestling match and introduction of the Mutants.
Mutant fans will be annoyed as although there are many Mutants in this film there Charecters are not fully explored which has been described as a way to future prequels on other Mutants with plots already been written for a planned Gambit origin film (Including Wolverines relationship with him) and a Deadpool film along with a rumored Banshee prequel to Wolverine.
I give Wolverine a 4/10
Reason: Although most fans will be happy with the basic plot and action sequences. True fans will spot all the annoying changes made to introduce other Mutants and lead to the fight with Weapon XI at the end of the film.
P.s. Can someone please tell me why they would want to see this film if they know the main Charecter lives?

If he was in receipt of stolen goods knowingly he would be facing jail time so why shouldn't he suffer.Of course this is a man who in the past admitted he watched pirate copies because he didn't want to go to press screenings in the rain?!?!?!
I suspect those who are defending this guy see no harm in dowloading but the truth is it will kill the industry , the music industry is already suffering massive losses , if the film industry goes the same way than smaller films ( and yes I include Slumdog in this) and films with an original spin like the first Terminator will not get made with the studios going for idiotic films full of fart jokes that will achieve box office because people like Friedman thought "Wheres the harm?"

If people weren't illegally downloading shows like Lost and Battlestar then I doubt Sky would be showing them mere days after they are broadcast in the States. The fact that it was pirated forced Sky to treat UK viewers a bit better.
With almost all of these things it has been shown that if companies give consumers the option to pay for things most of them will. The problem is that the pirates often provide consumers with better services than they are able to pay for.

On the topic of the reviewer it may seem harsh to sack him but most companies have a clause in their contracts which says that employees will be dismissed if they are caught doing something illegal.

As for the difference in viewing quality and comfort I don't really get that. If you've got a laptop, xbox or PS3 it is very easy to watch HD content that you've downloaded, whether legally or not, on your home TV.
Look at the music industry, things like napster were way ahead of itunes and spotify.
I think the biggest issue now is DRM. If I buy a PC game often it will only allow me to install it on a few different PCs. Given that I've had two laptops die on me in the last year you can see why this would be a problem. A cracked copy doesn't have any of these issues and is therefore a superior product.
