Primeval Not Extinct
|
Primeval has been saved from extinction, thanks to a groundbreaking co-production deal involving BBC America, ITV1 and UK cable channel Watch. 13 new episodes of the time traveling dino show are set to be made. Originally ITV1 announced in June that the show had been cancelled. However, today the channel revealed that it had agreed to share the show UKTV channel Watch after a deal was agreed between Impossible Pictures and BBC Worldwide, which distributes the show internationally. Germany's Pro7 channel is also part of the deal. ITV1 will premiere the fourth series of the show in early 2011. Watch - which already airs sci fi shows Doctor Who and Torchwood - will repeat it soon after and then premiere the fifth series later the same year, followed by ITV1. Tim Haines, one of the show's creators, told Media Guardian: "I am thrilled that ITV has agreed to this new deal which will allow Impossible Pictures to produce another 13 episodes of Primeval. The confidence demonstrated in the programme's continued success here and abroad will help us bring more big-screen action and a whole host of new creatures roaring back into people's living rooms." A film version is also still in development. |

Once you've lost your main cast members it makes sense to call it a day.

I'm a bit annoyed by ITV though, if they can afford to produce rubbish like Doc Martin, I've got no career get me out of this Jungle and that rip of of come dine with me House Guest then they must have enough to fully fund this. Great that the BBC has helped out though. Good old Auntie.

Primeval wasn't brilliant I know, but it was good fun and season three had finally introduced a plot arc which could have been interesting. The only problem I had was with three of the main cast members leaving, and the show being left with the 'children.' Wonder if I'll still feel the same way in a year and a half when it's aired.

This is great news. Really glad it's back. I had heard that it was doing well overseas but didn't think the BBC and ITV could work together on it. Glad I was wrong.
Take care,

I'm glad it will be coming back as it's a show with real potential. Hopefully we'll now be able to see what the idea was that Sarah had to save the others? But please leave Danny where he is!

Now find a way to work more knickers shots of her into the fourth series and it will garner Doctor Who ratings.

ITV can afford to make shows like Doc Martin, I'm a Z-list Celeb Get Me Outta Here etc... because they are CHEAP to make, unlike high-concept shows such as Primeval, which have CGI, stunts etc... which all go to bump the budget up. They probably make about 3 or 4 episodes of Doc Martin, to one of Primeval.
I'm glad this rescue plan has been put into action, and that we'll see more of the show.
