Preacher Set for the Big Screen

Neal Moritz ("I Am Legend") will produce the movie for Columbia, which is also developing another Ennis project, The Boys. The award winning Preacher comic series, which ran from 1995 to 2000, is about a laconic, cigarette-smoking Texan preacher whose city is decimated by an otherworldly force, forcing on a journey across the country to take on the evil. A TV series was in development at the US station HBO, but fizzled out during development earlier this year. Which, in retrospect, was probably a blessing in disguise considering the man in charge of the show was Mark Steven Johnson, director of such okay-but-hardly-spectacular comic-to-screen fare as Daredevil and Ghost Rider. We reckon Mendes is much more exciting choice of director, almost as intriguing a concept as Darren Aronofsky directing RoboCop! |

Though I suppose they could film it and then not release it...
OK, I won't believe this til I buy my ticket. Actually, they could still cancel it then. I won't believe it til the end credits roll. And I bet they'll have sanitised it so it won't really be Preacher any more, so even then it won't count.
Cynical? Never!
