New Showrunner For V

V may have premiered to rave reviews in the States last night, but behind the scenes there have been dramas going on. Production on the show was halted after four episodes because the network, ABC, wasn’t happy with the direction it was going in, then its broadcast schedule was altered so that the first four episodes are being shown as a mini series this year, with the remaining nine episodes of the 13 originally commissioned due to air next year at some point.

And now there’s a new man in charge.

According to Variety former Chuck and The Shield executive producer Scott Rosenbaum has now been installed to steer the series. He replaces Scott Peters, who will continue as an exec producer alongside Jace Hall, and Jeff Bell, who has departed the show.

But with the show getting such a good reaction from critics, you have to wonder if the series needs a new direction?

I watched V last night and thought it was amazing - I'm just not happy about only getting four episodes to watch this year.

The first episode of V got 13.9 million viewers and 5.0 in the demo! It's the most watched premiere of any new show this year. Plus it was on at the same time as NCIS, which is America's most watched show!
It's the best rating for an 8 p.m. show on any network since the premiere of Lost in 2004.

I hope it doesn't drop off too much next week and that the hiatus doesn't hurt it. I havn't seen it yet but it starts here in Ireland tomorrow at 9 on tv3.

Just watched the pilot and I thought it was bloody good. Here's hoping for the rest of the season to be as good

Trust me, the show needs a new direction... badly. It was completely rushed. The reaction by everybody (applause) to one speech from an alien billboard ad on the bottom of a ship was absurd. What about the war of the worlds broadcast? Where's the people jumping off buildings and stocking up on food and ammo, because yes, that is a very realistic reaction. There was no slow burn to this story, even the resistance was already there. And the end with the ninjas? Why ninjas? Why not a nerve gas? They're an extremely advanced alien race and they can't come up with a better way to combat a resistance? And without giving anything away, a character is revealed to be a visitor in this absurd way, blowing his cover very needlessly... just to tell the audience and the main character that the visitors are among us. I'm trying to be fair in my assessment of this show, but it just wasn't very convincing.
