New Doctor to be revealed on Saturday

Since David Tennant announced he was handing in the keys to the TARDIS at the National Television Awards, we've been on 24/7 tenterhooks wondering who new boss Steven Moffat will pick to carry the show into 2010. We're not going to have to wait much longer, as the 11th Doctor will be revealed in a special Doctor Who Confidential airing on BBC One at 5.35pm on Saturday 3 January.

The actor stepping into the biggest role on British telly will be giving his (or maybe her) reaction to becoming a Time Lord, in what's likely to be the most watched Confidential of all time. "We are so pleased to have been able to cast this person as the new Doctor," said Head of Drama BBC Wales (and Who producer) Piers Wenger. "We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own – I just can't wait to tell everyone who it is – it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!"

Sounds like one hell of a Christmas present - even if it is a week late!

After watching 'Serenity' again, Chewitel Ejiofor is the outstanding candidate.

I'm going for Bill Nighy. Pants-wettingly exciting though!!

Sylvester McCoy remarked on Five Live this evening about the new actor having worked with Steven Moffat in the past.

The logical assumption to draw from this would be that the 11th Doctor appeared in a show where Moffat had a lot of control, on eof his own series rather than a show he contributed to, such as Press Gang, Coupling and Jekyll.

Or Curse of the Fatal Death.

Personally i would love Richard Coyle but if it is Chewitel Ejiofor would he be up for more than 1 season

I'm gonna be suprised if it's not Paterson Joseph, to be honest. He's been the most hotly rumoured for a while now and bookies even stopped taking bets on him weeks ago....

I dont particularly think he's a good choice (not because he's black or anything.... just because I dont think there's any 'Doctor-ish' about him).

I hope it's Harry Llyod (for a younger Doctor) or Bill Nighy (for an older, more old-school Doctor).... but I dont think it's gonna happen... :(

It's gonna be Paterson.... you'll see.... With Tennant regenerating on New Years Day 2010 leaving the way for the Eleventh Doctor to make his series debut in March 2010....

C u after the announcement

I just hope it's THE Colin Baker, to relive the glory days!

Posted by Mr Matt (127.0.0.1) on January 03, 2009 at 02:39 AM GMT #

Nah, leave Colin Baker to seek out his Doctor's Glory-Days in the Big Finish audio range. See their 100th release "100 Days of the Doctor" for his best line of their series so far.

I'm quite willing to ley down money on it being someone that no-one knows - someone that will make everyone say "Who?"

Dexter Fletcher was in Press Gang. He's an excellent actor but he's not my idea of the doc. Richard Coyle would be great. My personal favourite is Julian Rynd Tutt. Wouldn't like to see a female or a black doctor but if it is to be a female how about Alice Eve

SQUEEE! It's today!! I'm so excited!!

I really hope it's not relative unknown Matt Smith, although apparently he was mentioned with Paterson Joseph and Chiwetel Ejiofor by Lizo earlier as the front runners

Posted by Daft Aider (127.0.0.1) on January 03, 2009 at 10:15 AM GMT #
