Judge Dredd movie green-lit

Forget about whether or not the 1995 attempt is really an undervalued classic: skip forward to 2009 when the new Judge Dredd movie will go into production! 2000 AD comic has revealed that they've partnered with DNA Films, the production company behind cool SF movies like Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, to take the lawman of the future to the big screen again. CEO Jason Kingsley said, "We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen." This is already being discussed on the SFX forum.

Oooh. Who will they cast as Dredd? Hopefully, somebody with an impressive chin who can emote beyond grunting "Iamderlaw".

Christ, it's going to be Jason bloody Statham, isn't it?

Dredd needs to be an American, so how about Adam Baldwin? Firefly's Jayne could carry the role - Shiny. Let's be a good guy! (I'm sure there's a mangled quote in there somewhere)

I firmly believe that stallone was good and would be perfect again for the role, that is if it's old dredd, not young dredd.Otherwiase, as Steve said, he'd have to be american and not jason statham, with the guy from burn notice bing in mind.

Another vote for Stallone again for me. He was perfect. All chin, no brains, barking gruff one-liners. He's probably affordable. His age doesn't matter too much, the shoulder pads do most of the acting anyway.

Only one person would be good as Dredd, Bruce Campbell!

Nah!

Probably Clancy Brown or Josh Brolin for Dredd

Stallone was fine as Dredd, upto the point that they made him take his Helmet off.

Bruce, while great, is a little too rolly and happy for Dredd, if it's older dredd in stallone, as long as they don't make him take off his helmet or kiss anyone, unless it's a Glaswegian kiss goodnight

Stallone was ok, but once the helmet came off, it seemed much less a Judge Dredd movie and more of a Stallone sci-fi flick. That said, the production design was fantastic and the costumes and props looked brilliant. Don't think Stallone could do it now though. He looked pretty hellish in Rambo.

I could see Bruce Cambell, but can't help thinking he'd be too jokey. How about Ron Pearlman? A mighty chin and acting chops.
