Ghost Rider 2 Not A Reboot

Scriptwriter David Goyer has revealed that the sequel to the poorly received Ghost Rider movie will not be a reboot, but it will have a significant change of style: "What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider" he tells MTV.com.

The first movie, based on the Marvel comic strip character about a motorbike stunt rider who's cursed to become a demon every night, underperformed at the box office, and didn't please fans with its campy approach. Many were surprised that a sequel was even announced, but expected that the film would give the franchise a complete makeover. Not so, says Goyer, who wrote the Blade movies and Batman Beyond, and is currently showrunner on FlashForward.

"This story picks up eight years after the first film," says Goyer. "It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he's just in a much darker, existential place… I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker."

Nicolas Cage is back in the saddle as the star and Goyer reckons the film will go before the cameras before the end of 2010.

Personally I loved Ghost Rider: much better film than most of the "Marvel Movies". I'd watch that rather than the Spider-Movies any day of the week.

They'd BETTER keep Cage in the role, and they ought to keep Sam Elliot.

Actually, they ought to make a prequel all about him: The horse looks WAY cooler than the bike.

I actually enjoyed the first one, ok, it wasn't the dark knight, but it wasn't awful

Ghost Rider was an enjoyable enough film - but even the comics themselves have never had an outstanding run , GR is a character who's strength is based solely on how cool he looks , and fundementally thats it !!

Even the concept is flawed - he's a spirit of vengeance created by the devil ( marvel comics has messed around with the origin countless times, and now hes an angel or some such crap - but im talking original and movie origin ) who is created to search out souls and send them to the devil to strengthen his army , but he rebels - goes after bad guys - tortures and kills em - thgen sends there souls where??? to hell !!! - strengthening the devils hordes perhaps???

this all rings od deja vu ( the darker - more realistic tone of a potential sequel ) a'la 'Spawn' whos character concept is much the same !!

But being this is marvel this one will probably happen !!

I like Nic cage and i do visually like GR as a character - Just bring in 'Vengeance ' as the villain

If God has any decency he won't allow this to be made.

NO EVA MENDES, MEANS I WON'T WATCH. She made the first one bearable unlike Cage doing the various interpreations of Elvis.

And indeed Sam Elliot made a much more interesting character.

A reboot then. Thanks for clearing that up Mr Goyer

S'alright, I s'pose. Better than 'Spawn' and 'The Punisher'. About on a par with 'Daredevil'.

Does it deserve a sequel? Hmmm. It could be an improvement.

I enjoyed the first film in a popcorn movie kind of way and i'd like to see the sequel. I've enjoyed the Marvel films.
