From the SFX office
![]()
Jon and Dave fight over the Sixth Doctor cover (perhaps someone should have told them we have spares). Who’s your favourite Doctor? The question’s been particularly pertinent in SFX Towers today, as all ten of the Time Lord’s TV incarnations arrived in the office to the sort of excitement usually reserved for the unveiling of new-look Star Trek uniforms. From William Hartnell through to David Tennant, Gallifrey’s most famous son is gracing the ten different covers of our latest issue (SFX 176, on sale Wednesday 22 October), part of our celebration of Doctor Who’s 45th birthday (we'll overlook the fact that he's actually over 900). It’s an impressive line up of talent, and in the absence of a bona fide time machine, probably the closest we’ll ever get to a “Ten Doctors” special. But which one to choose? As you can see from the pic, discussions are getting heated. In between the Doctor Who debates, we’re full steam ahead on issue 177, which is shaping up to be just as packed as its predecessor. Our phones are glued to our ears, smoke is rising from our keyboards as we try to set new records for words typed per minute and our dynamic art duo, Jon and Catherine, are giving hints of what Michelangelo could have achieved if he’d been given a computer instead of a paintbrush. Surely we can’t find time for anything else? Team, what are you up to? DAVE B AND JON: have just been looking at photographs of sci-fi’s greatest villains and trying to decide who’s the most villainous. There’ll be an arm wrestle to decide later. NICK: is still wowed by the first Trek photos and polishing his Walther PPK in preparation for tonight's Quantum of Solace screening. He's also loving Dave Gibbons's new Watching The Watchmen book, which is a beaut. IAN: is quite excited about Torchwood season three after going on set on Wednesday and seeing them filming the end of episode one. There was an awful lot of smutty banter about plums and jammy rings when the snack basket came round - it obviously percolates down from John Barrowman... DAVE G: is on Special deadline hell and trying to work out the mechanics of getting Joe Ahearne as a special guest in the forum next week. SIMON: is desperately trying to source a film poster, and hoping that Franklyn prompts a long-overdue revival of the stovepipe hat. CATHERINE: is finishing off designing the five-page behemoth that is Post Apocalypse before she passes it on to Simon so he can work his proof-reading magic. RICH: is writing at express speed to get a big movie feature finished before he jets off to San Francisco tomorrow. ADE: is putting some finishing touches to ads in the upcoming special, and thinks it’s one of the best we have ever done! He's also looking forward to not getting up in the dark this weekend! LEAH: will return this afternoon, in order to send out the new e-newsletter.
