Dragonball: Evolution trailer goes live

The first trailer for the live action adaptation of Dragonball has hit the web, revealing that the film's title will be Dragonball: Evolution. Frankly, to us it looks like a combination of Transformers and The Forbidden Kingdom - take that as you will - and we're also disappointed at the absence of there being OVER 9000 of anything in it. Check out the YouTube video below.

It's also been announced that popular J-Pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki will be performing the film's theme song, "Rule". Anime News Network reports that, through sheer coincidence, not only is director James Wong a massive fan of Ayumi's, but Ayumi's also a massive fan of Dragonball, saying that she's liked it "for a long time". Awww, it's like a match made in heaven.

Dragonball: Evolution is due for release in Japan in March 2009, with a US release following in April.

I think the only thing that was over 9000 was Goku's hair gel.

Man, I already feel sorry for the parents who'll hafta sit through this, and I'm a Power Rangers fan!

So the green villain dude is called "Piccolo", and that daft looking American kid is called "Goku"?
Christ, why not hire Frankie Muniz and call him Junichi
