BLOG Chuck becomes (more) super

Genre stars Routh and Kreuk sign for Chuck season three. Blogger Narin Bahar discusses the implications:

Chuck becomes (more) super

Chuck fans would argue that both the show and its eponymous hero are already brilliant indeed, but two bits of casting news suggest the new season will be veritably - and literally - super.

Superman Returns star Brandon Routh and Smallville's Kristin Kreuk will both be joining season three for multiple episodes.

Kreuk, in her first role since leaving Lana Lang behind, will play a potential love interest for Chuck (Zachary Levi). Her character, Hannah, will come to work at the Buy More having lost a job in publishing and – typically – cause lust and comedy consternation in equal measures among the Nerd Herders, with Morgan also apparently set to develop feelings for her.

Meanwhile, Brandon Routh’s character, Shaw, is aptly going to be showing Chuck how to balance his double life - as a spy who acts as his mentor and the new leader of Operation Bartowski, as well as proving a potential rival for Sarah's affections. He first appears in this season’s fourth episode.

Chuck season three is not due to air in America until March 2010. In order to keep the momentum going cast and crew are working closely with Chuck Me Out a site they launched officially at San Diego Comic Con with lots of behind the scenes video and discussion to keep fans' appetites whetted before the new season begins.

What would you like to see out of the third season of Chuck? Should the Sarah romance be ditched permanently? Which other sci-fi alumni would you like to see take their place on the show (personally I'd like Mark Sheppard to show up as, frankly, he's been on pretty much every other show I love in the last five years).

Honestly if they have not started filming yet the best thing they can do is dump Kruek ... yes she is very attractive but can she act .. hell no she sucks the life out of scenes with ease

was trying to think of a play on words involving "she is acting talent kryptonite" but couldnt

Brandon Routh could be cool though but does his casting mean less Casey ???

I will be very grumpy at less Casey.

The one thing that I find very interesting about all this casting is it flies in the face of the whole 'Vedak and co being given less budget for season 3' - either that or the credit crunch / fabness that is Chuck is encouraging people to accept less money than they would otherwise (I hope the latter).

I haven't watched Chuck yet, but your enthusiasm for the show Narin is making me more and more intrigued. I think I'll give it a try.

Brandon Routh being on Chuck is, in my opinion, brilliant. I can only hope it's a great as I think it should be.

Less exciting is Kristin Kreuk, because, as pretty as she undoubtedly is, I'm not even remotely convinced she can act. I'm prepared to proven wrong, but I'd hate for Chuck to go downhill because of her.

However, you're idea of Mark Sheppard is awesome. Like you, h's been on more or less every single on of my favourite TV shows in the last five years.

Also, the Sarah/Chuck romance should finally be canned. I find myself getting bored with how that keeps progressing and then not progressing. It's the only element of the show that irritates me.
