Battlestar Galactica is back

If you're one of our US-based readers, you will have seen the first episode of the new Battlestar Galactica run last night. Titled "Sometimes a Great Nation", it will hit UK screens on Tuesday 20 January at 9pm on Sky1.

So: have you seen it yet? io9 was blogging it live as it broadcast. Meanwhile here's the LA Times review of the episode, including a look at how grim the season is shaping up to be:

'Battlestar has never been a bright and breezy show. Its characters are, after all, the few survivors of a nuclear genocide wandering the universe in search of sanctuary from the still-not-satisfied Cylons. So everyone has a lot of emotional baggage... "Sometimes a Great Nation" makes every previous episode look like "The Music Man." Dark, despairing, despondent, all the big D words would work here.'

Follow the countdown to the final episode over on the official Battlestar Galactica website. Some of these links may have spoilers if you're going to watch at UK pace. Let us know what you think of Battlestar in the comments below, or in the Battlestar thread on our forum.

Just watched it.Amazing.Almost like a series finale with the amount of revelations.Has left all my theories spinning in the air yet again. But I have learnt BSG and will take nothing as gospel till the end, particularly the 5th cylon.

Seen the episode of BSG and it's a corker! The final cylon is a surprise (and not at all who you are led to believe it is). What exactly will we make of Starbuck now? Time traveller? And I'll bet Tigh will be a bit happier now for a change... When you see it you will know what I mean.

For people that haven't seen it yet I'd stay away from any sci-fi sites or american news sites until you have as there are a couple of huge spoilers that seen to be everywhere. It is very, very good though.

Awesome, really damn depressing but so so perfect, I just can't wait for the other 9 episodes because if they continue with this quality then BSG may well become my favourite show.

You know your watching something truly exceptional when a moment makes you actually stand up and shout at "WHAAAAAAT!" at the top of your voice. And i'm usually a very reserved cat.

Stunning episode with some powerful scenes and really confusing plot revelations. It's quite impressive that the 'big reveal' in the last few seconds is actually among the lesser shocks of the episode.
