Battlestar Galactica gets the chop
|
The rumours have been circulating for a while, but now it's official: Battlestar Galactica will come to an end once next year's 22 episodes have finished airing. Confirmation came in a statement by executive producers Ronald D Moore and David Eick to industry mag Variety. "This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end," the statement reads. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms." The news doesn't come as a great surprise - although the series has (quite rightly) received enormous critical acclaim, it hasn't grabbed great ratings. We're just thankful that the Sci Fi Channel have stuck with the show long enough to give it a proper ending, rather than axeing it prematurely and leaving plot threads dangling. The show is due to return for that fourth and final season in January. You'll have to excuse us now, we have to go and have a little cry. |

Can't say i was over impressed with this revamp, the CGI cylons were rendered very well but I think making them look like humans was a copout.
The Curse of low ratings stikes again!!!!

But having said that, although my initial reaction was a resounding "NOOOOOO!!!!", I have to admit I am glad to see the series bow out gracefully at the right time, and not just hang on for the sake of the extra dollar. Plot threads spun out too long, pointless padding episodes just for the sake of keeping the show going, endless unresolved plot arcs can kill a series as surely as any axing.
Thanks to Moore and Eick for a beautiful, brilliant, intelligent show.
So say we all.

BSG is the best Sci-Fi programme on tv. I'm sick of nay sayers like yourself constantly criticising something they dont understand. If you don't like it don't watch it. Lots of people do watch it, and that clearly proves it is the best programme on tv. You're opinion differs from mine, therefore you are obviously wrong.
Hmmm....who do i sound like.....??

Who is good, gets brilliant ratings!!!
See the difference.
Goodness me, you're not the brightest bulb in the box wolfsair.
Can't help if the majority rules can I!!!!

Wolfslair: I wouldn't worry what Cybos says - he thinks Pirates 3 is a good movie. That says it all

so long BSG, you will be missed.
And Cybos, no hard feelings man. We can't all love every show and I'll not slag you off for the hell of it.

Still, I had always hoped to get a series 5. Caprica has some big shoes to fill.

At least it won't get dull and bogged down by it's own mythology the way The X-Files and Buffy did.
BSG? I say live fast, die young and leave a good-looking series!
And anyway, there's always the proposed prequel spin-off thingy...

The Chief (Aaron Douglas) was at NZ's Armageddon conference a couple of months ago and he was also pretty sure that the show was coming to an end.
Very much a shocker but it couldn't go on forever and maintain such brain popping standards of quality. Let's just thank the Lords of Kobol that it will get a proper ending!
SO SAY WE ALL!
(WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!)

It was good while it lasted and it'll be even better to see a good strong conclusion to whats been a fantasticly in depth science fiction television drama thats set a standard that only Heroes can follow.

However the plan to have 3 16 episode seasons of Lost to finish off instead of two 22 episode seasons really, really ticks me off.
Prats.

Such petty jealousy, i am so sorry about BSG being axed but that he hand it has been dealt.
Now i have picked up all your toys and put them back in your pram.
DIDDUMS DID THE NASTY MAN UPSET YOU!!!

Can you say a series is getting the chop when it's decided to end bring itself to conclusion? I think the headline makes BSG sound like a failure when it's not. I'm not griping, just raising a point.
Anyway, just a thought.

BSG isn't getting the chop, it's bowing out gracefully whilst the music still plays and the applause still thunders.

Better to bow out gracefully than disgracefully (unless you're me).
And Cybos, the more money something makes and the more people who watch it, makes it "good"?
Advertisers must love you. Enjoy watching Big Brother....

Hopefully they'll make the last season count and bow out in a way that stargate and so many others couldn't. And with a bit of luck the pegasus tv movie will be good to cushion the blow. Pity they're not doing caprica afterall, it could have been very good

We live in a world where the majority rules, this is not my fault. As i said if BSG had garnered better ratings you probably would be looking at a season 5 and 6. It didn't so they are axing it. Not my fault, neither is my fault they i like popular programmes and films. The majority watch a programme or film which makes the money, and yes this film is good, i enjoyed it.
Now put the green eyed monster away and get over it, move on, take a walk in the sunshine.
Such bitterness is most unbecoming!!!!

As for POTC3, I won't judge it because I haven't seen it yet.

Following comments made by Edward “Adama” Olmos and Katee “Starbuck” Sackhoff at the Saturn Awards on Thursday, it seems that the showrunners have not announced an end to the series.
Speaking about the soon-to-be-filmed fourth season, Olmos told IESB: “This will probably be the most extraordinary season of Battlestar, it’s the final season so, it’s definitely going to be the most vicious... You heard it first.”
However, executive producer David Eick refuted this, saying: "I promise you that when Ron [D Moore] and I make a decision about Galactica's future, we'll let you know."
Abit of a contradiction from the above, i think you will find if the sci-fi channel had said they would stand by BSG long term, this 4th season would not have been the last. You can go round the houses but the truth is because of the low ratings this show has had the chop. In the US ratings are very important, under perfoming programmes don't get a chance.

It's a shame to see BSG go, but at least we will have closure.
