Trailer for the new comedy Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World is set in a too-near future, with humanity facing destruction. It marks the directorial debut of of screenwriter Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) and as yet has no official UK release date.

More new footage than was shown on the Super Bowl TV trailer. Not sure why this French version has surfaced first, but it’s out there to enjoy. GI Joe: Retaliation is released in the UK on 22 June 2012.

Gotta admit, this is a lot more promising than the previous trailer. What do you reckon? The Amazing Spider-Man is released in the UK on 4 July.

A ten-minute trailer for upcoming SF movie Modified was screened for the first time at the SFX Weekender on Friday afternoon. Modified is a science fiction thriller set in the underground world in which people modifiy their bodies with technology. Modified boasts an international cast of actors including John Sandeman, Robert Dawson, Cory Sanders, Lia Albers, Joe Law, Megan Anstee and Gabriel Constantin as cyberpunk antiheroes in a high-tech world of easy sex and death. Kerr (Cory Sanders) searches an underground world of illegal body modification with technology for Cole (Lia Albers) the woman he loves, but soon finds himself caught in a battle for control of the modification scene.  Event Films is handling UK distribution and will be announcing an autumn 2012 release date shortly.

John Carter is released in the UK on 8 March.

Universal posted a new “sneak peek” from Snow White And The Huntsman on the film’s Facebook page. Most of it is familiar from the previous trailer, but there are a few new shots. The film, starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Ray Winstone, Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Lily Cole, is directed by first-time movie helmer Rupert Sanders and is released in the UK on 1 June 2012.

"Vincent And The Doctor”

Love, Actually and The Boat That Rocked director Richard Curtis (and writer of a zillion other things including Four Weddings And A Funeral, Black Adder, The Vicar Of Dibley and Notting Hill) is set to write and direct a time travel movie called About Time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The low-budget project is in preproduction with Working Title Films, the Universal-owned production banner led by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Bevan tells The Hollywood Reporter that casting is under way for the project and hopes it will go before the cameras “sometime this summer”.

Of course, this isn’t Curtis’s first foray into time travel. He wrote “Vincent And The Doctor” for the first Matt Smith season of Doctor Who and the Black Adder: Back And Forth Millennium special.

The official John Carter site has been updated with new high resolution images from the Andrew Stanton-directed film, released in the UK on 9 March.

It’s a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (aka, Mars). John Carter is based on a classic novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs and tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Our favourite Aussie actress, Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck’s Sarah Walker) has spoken to Movie Web about her upcoming role in the movie I, Frankenstein. An adaptation of Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel, it’s a modern take on the Frankenstein story, starring Aaron Echart as Dr Frankenstein’s most famous creation, who has survived into the modern world. Strahovski will play the female lead, a scientist working on reanimating the dead and tricked into working for demons seeking to create an army of the undead (more information here).

Surprisingly, Strahovski makes a big deal about the story’s romantic elements.

“I’m flying in a couple of weeks to Australia to shoot another movie with Aaron Eckhart, which I’m really excited about called I, Frankenstein. It’s going to be sort of an action-drama-romance type movie. I play a scientist, and I think I’m changing up my accent. I’m going to be British in this one, which is nice for a change. I’ve been an American for so many years now. It’s kind of a modern take on the original story. There will be some romantic elements, I think it’s safe to say that much.”

Cube and Splice director Vincenzo Natali is set to tell a cinematic ghost story in reverse with his next movie.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Natali will direct Haunter, which will start shooting in Canada in March. It’s a ghost story told from the ghost’s point of view, about a spook called Lisa, who – along with her family – died in 1986 under “sinister circumstances” but remains trapped in the house. Lisa then tries to prevent a new occupant of the house – a girl called Olivia –  even going as far as possessing her in an attempt to save her from the same fate…

Chronicle is a the story of a bunch of High School kids who develop superpowers, which at first is fun, but then takes a darker turn. It’s released in the UK on 1 February, and we’ve also got a slightly disturbing spider-torturing clip for you… (Click On Read and comment if you’re not on the page already)

Fancy a bit of Gallic, high concept, sci-fi weirdness? Upside Down is a radical new take on Romeo And Juliet (and therefore a future pub trivia question) set in two worlds with opposite gravitational pull. Look intriguing. A French/Canadian co production, it stars Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst, and is directed by Argentinian Juan Diego Solanas. No UK release date yet, but expect top see it pop up in arts cinemas later this year.

That’s a few birthdays for 2012 sorted already. Shame there’s no plush Nick Fury. What the world needs is a soft, cuddly Samuel L Jackson. [via ComicBookMovie]

Co-written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield), and directed by Goddard, The Cabin In The Woods promises a new and horrifying twist on an old sub genre (which you can probably guess from the title, while the poster definitely promises twists).

The cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Brian J White, Amy Acker, Fran Kranz, and Jesse Williams.

The Cabin In The Woods is being released in the UK on the perhaps somewhat ironic date of Friday 13th April, 2012. Considering how long this film has taken to get to the screen (it was  shot in 2009 but then became a victim of MGM’s bankruptcy woes) let’s hope that’s not an omen.

The proper UK one this time

Slightly earlier than expected, the new trailer for John Carter premiered on ABC’s Good Morning America today, and the channel has put the trailer online how it aired on the program… sort of sandwiched between bits of interview with star Taylor Kitsch. All seems a bit odd, but we’re not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. We’ll stick up the proper trailer when it becomes available,

Stuck between the Rock and a strange place. Journey 2 The Mysterious Island is released in the UK on 10 February 2012.

Entertainment Weekly has posted a new image from Pixar’s upcoming first ever live action movie, John Carter, showing the eponymous hero in trouble from a giant white ape creature in an arena.

It’s been directed by Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) who tells the magazine that the white Apes are, “a formidable creature that you kind of hear about throughout the movie, but you never really witness.” Well, we seem to be witnessing it here. They are, apparently nocturnal and like moles they stopped using their eyes, and use a heightened sense of smell instead.

The director adds that Carter (Taylor Kitsch), “needs an army to solve his big problem in the third act, and the only army he knows was his previous captors. When he goes back, the game has changed, and he gets incarcerated. This is what he has to get out of. He has to get out of jail and not get killed by these apes in order to get his bigger problem solved.”

It’s the new one from Pixar, with a highland flavour. Due out in the UK on 17 August 2012

Ah, right, okay. Director Tarsem Singh’s take on the Snow White fairy tale is a comedy – you can tell from hilarious lines like, “Snow way!” But it’ll take some going to be funnier than the camp panto that’s Immortals. Still, at least Singh’s signature operatic visual style seems to suit the material better, though we’re still not sure about the dying swan on White’s head. In the battle of the Snow Whites we reckon Snow White And The Huntsman is ahead at the moment with a far more intriguing trailer. But let’s wait for the final box office showdown – Mirror Mirror might surprise us all. Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer is released in the UK early next year.

We know you’ve been waiting for it! The Hunger Games is released in the UK on 23 March 2012.

Gotta admit, this looks surprisingly impressive – a true dark fairytale. Snow White And The Huntsman is released in the UK on 1 June 2012.

Ah, they don’t make movie posters like this any more. Except one person does. Tom “The Dude” Hodge is carving out a bit of a reputation for his wonderfully lurid B-movie posters, and above is his latest creation. While we can’t help thinking that “Pretend You’re Somewhere Else” is probably what you’ll be doing if you ever get stuck in a cinema watching Madison County, the poster is a peach. We still reckon that his work on Hobo With A Shotgun (below) is his greatest masterpiece so far, but what we’d really like to see is “The Dude”’s poster for Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Having spent all the year parodying other film trailers, the final trailer for The Muppets ends with a parody conveyor belt taking in Paranormal Activity, Puss In Boots, Happy Feet Two and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. If the film, is as quarter as good as the trailers have been, we’re in for a treat.

We heard yesterday that there’s going to a US TV remake of Misfits, but looking at this trailer for Chronicle, it looks like somebody’s made the big screen version already on the sly. Chronicle is a faux-documentary-style film about teen slackers with superpowers, written by Max (son of John)  Landis and directed by Josh Trank, and is due to be released next year. And it looks kinda fun.

A new, intense-looking post-apocalyptic thriller from Hitman director Xavier Gens. German/US/Canadian co-production it apparently features the performance of a lifetime from Michael (Aliens) Biehn (who appears to be morphing to Stephen McHattie). No UK release date yet, and only a limited theatrical release in the US, but this looks like it may have “cult hit” written all over it.

So, what do you reckon?

Don’t you just hate the way Christmas comes earlier every year? After this trailer, you might think it can’t come soon enough. It’s a new collaboration between Sony and Aardman Animation, featuring the voice talents of James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton and Bill Nighy as members of the family Christmas living in the North Pole amidst a hugely complex and high-tech operation that’s needed to get billions of presents delivered every year.

An almost throwaway line in a Daily Record interview with Scottish comic writer-turned-scriptwriter Grant Morrison reveals a snippet of news that can happily be file under very exciting indeed.

Okay, it’s early days yet, and many things could derail the project long before it gets anywhere near the cameras, but it seem that Morrison (Batman RIP, The Invisibles, Animal Man, the newly relaunched Action Comics) is writing the script for a Rogue Trooper movie, based on the iconic blue-faced, genetically enhanced soldier with microchips for buddies from the pages of classic 2000AD.

The script is being written for Sam Worthington’s production company, Full Clip Productions.

Rogue Trooper was created by writer Gerry Finley-Day and artist Dave Gibbons, first appearing in 2000AD prog 228 in 1981. And he’s been ripe for a live action conversion ever since. Morrison, however, has never written for the character in comic strip form, but we don’t doubt he a great man to a movie version the justice it deserves.

Morrison also reveals that, “I’ve just finished the second draft of the Dinosaurs Vs Aliens movie,” referring to the project he is developing with Men In Black and Addams Family director Barry Sonnenfeld.  “It’s what it kind of says on the tin. What would happen if aliens arrived when dinosaurs were on earth? Barry had said he wanted a comic book version of the story – and the whole thing built towards the film.” The dinosaurs are apparently the protagonists of the story. And it can’t be worse than Cowboys Vs Aliens, surely? Oh hang on, Sonnenfeld also gave us Wild, Wild West.

Chuck Meets Stan
Chuck has managed to nab its coolest geek culture guest star yet, reports TV Guide – Stan “The Man” Lee will be appearing in the seventh episode of the fifth and last season. Chuck will apparently meet Lee “in the most unexpected places.” The DC boardroom, perhaps? Certainly not the set of any Marvel film…

Resident Evil 5
Milla Jovovich has Tweeted confirmation that Johann Urb will play Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 5, reports ShockTillYouDrop. “Looks just like him BTW!” she wrote. In the games, Kennedy (left) was part of the Raccoon City Police before certain events propelled him to be part of an underground anti-Umbrella organisation.

Bond 23
James Bond site MI6-HQ.com reports that the opening scenes of Bond 23 will be filmed in Istanbul. The site says that locations that will be used include the city’s historical neighbourhood Sultanahmet Square. “There are, however, a number of locations, including the waterside and shores of the Bosporus, in consideration for the 10-15 minutes of the movie that is to be filmed in Turkey,” reveals Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Günay revealed. Both From Russia With Love and The World is Not Enough featured scenes filmed in Istanbul.

The Avengers
According to an interview with Tom Hiddleston over at Total Film, Loki’s powers have taken a step up the supervillain scale in The Avengers: “”The fun thing about Loki is that he goes 1-on-1 with every single Avenger… Loki has become so menacing that they all have to team up and overcome their differences to stop him…”

The Walking Dead

Kevin Tancharoen’s gamble has paid off. First the former choreographer and music video director made Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, a kind of YouTube audition tape to show the powers-that-be his vision of what live-action Mortal Kombat could look like. That lead to him directing the digital web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy (above). And that in turn has lead to New Line signing him up to direct a big screen reboot of the beat-’em-up franchise.

He tells Coming Soon that the new film version is a separate take on the property, but will reteam him with Rebirth writer Oren Uziel.

“It’s very exciting!” says Tancharoen. “I’ve been a gigantic fan of this title since I was a little kid. This is a dream come true for me. I’m really happy that New Line and Warner Bros saw the potential after the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries we did and the numbers that the videogame has done. I’m extremely grateful because it’s been a big, big journey for me.

“This is a new take and it’s not going to continue directly off of the web series,” he continues. “There will be elements that are familiar to the people that have watched it, but it is its own movie. I wanted to make sure that, regardless of anything else, that it’s a good movie. It doesn’t have to be something that you will have had to have seen all ten episodes previously to understand or have played the videogame to understand. It’ll live on its own and be its own film and will hopefully be something that can continue on. It’s such a big story that you could have two or three movies, but I want to make sure that the first one is good on its own.”

He’s not revealing yet, though, which of the game series’ characters will be in the film: “That I have to keep a secret for now, but you will be seeing a lot of your favourites. That I can guarantee!”

20th Century Fox developing a movie version of Isaac Asimov”s classic 1954 novel The Caves Of Steel, according to Deadline

Henry Hobson – who is currently making his debut feature, Maggie, about a teenage girl’s gradual transformation into a zombie, will direct the adaptation from a script from John Scott III.

Published in 1954, the book is set aound 3,000 years in the future with detective Elijah Bailey joining forces with a robot, R Daneel Olivaw, to solve the murder that threatens to escalate into an intergalactic incident.

The question is, how close will the book stick to the movie? Fox’s previous Asmiov adaptation, I, Robot – while fun in itself – was about as much like the original book as The Life Of Brian was to the bible.

Robert Knepper Enrols Into RIPD
Prison Break, Heroes and Stargate Universe actor Robert Knepper has joined the cast of RIPD (short for “Rest In Peace Department”) according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play a ghost, or a “deado” as they’re called in the film. Based on a Dark Horse comic, RIPD is about a police department with jurisdiction over the unquiet dead. It’s being directed by Robert Schwentke (RED) and stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. Now filming in Boston, it is due for a June 2013 release.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide has announced a new deal with Fox Film Entertainment and James Cameron to create Avatar attractions at Walt Disney theme parks, beginning with Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. “James Cameron is a groundbreaking filmmaker and gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creativity, technological innovation and delivering the best experience possible,” says Robert A Iger, President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “With this agreement, we have the extraordinary opportunity to combine James’ talent and vision with the imagination and expertise of Disney.” James Cameron will be heavily involved in the development of the attractions. “Avatar created a world which audiences can discover again and again and now, through this incredible partnership with Disney, we’ll be able to bring Pandora to life like never before,” says the director, adding, “With two new Avatar films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore. I’m chomping at the bit to start work with Disney’s legendary Imagineers to bring our Avatar universe to life. Our goal is to go beyond current boundaries of technical innovation and experiential storytelling, and give park goers the chance to see, hear, and touch the world of Avatar with an unprecedented sense of reality.”

Is Cameron Involved In The New Terminator Movies?

And on the subject of James Cameron, according to Deadline, the director has been convinced – on an unofficial basis – by his old mate Arnie Schwarzenegger to sit in on some brainstorming sessions for the new Terminator movies. However, the same article says that Justin Lin (Fast Five) is no longer attached to the project… for the moment, though he – ahem – could be back. Apparently, a plan by rights owner Megan Ellison and Arnold to put the first of two pictures in production for the fourth quarter of 2012 has forced Lin to drop out, because that clashes with his commitments on The Fast And The Furious franchise. Though if Ellison’s plans slip back, Lin could return to the project, because, the article claims, he’s very keen to do it.

The Secret Circle Gets Smallville Injection
Former Smallville exec producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders are returning to the CW to act as consultants on new witchy series The Secret Circle, reports TVLine. The pair — who have a development deal at Warner Bros — will work alongside current showrunner Kevin Williamson. This follows the departure of former Dollhouse porducers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain who quit as executive producers on The Secret Circle back in March, when Deadline claimed that “there was duplication of showrunner duties and too many bosses on Secret Circle.”

It’s Clash Of The Lord Of The 300 Conans. Or something. Released in the UK on 11 November.

Starring Dominic West (The Wire, 300), Rebecca Hall (The Town) and Oscar-nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), The Awakening is the chilling new supernatural thriller from Nick Murphy, set for release on 11 November 2011. In post-World War I England in 1921, an author and paranormal sceptic (Hall) is invited to a countryside boarding school by the head master (West) to investigate rumours of an apparent haunting. But just when she thinks she has debunked the ghost theory, she has a chilling encounter which makes her question all her rational beliefs.

The Muppets do it again. If the film is anywhere near as genius as the trailers, it’s going to be the greatest Muppet movie yet. And don’t you get a tingle going down your spine at the glimpse of them re-enacting the TV show’s opening title sequence?

Universal has released the first TV spot for The Thing. A prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter film, the Matthijs van Heijningen-directed thriller stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Lloyd Walker and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and hits UK cinemas on 2 December.

The Hungers Games has started a trend – trailers for trailers! Where will this madness end? The full Twilight: Breaking Dawn trailer debuts next week, and the film on 18 November.

Distinctly child-lite. Lots of robot-on-robot action. Cool. (And one of the best things about this film is that, unlike with the Transformers movies, in the robot fight scenes you can actually see what’s going on!)

Although no start-of-filming date has been officially confirmed, it’s widely rumoured that 20th Century Fox would like to see The Wolverine go into production early in 2012. But with all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans (change of director, Japan not being the ideal location to shoot at the moment) a script rewrite is required on Christopher McQuarrie’s original script. According to Variety, Fox has hired Mark Bomback to perform that task.

Bomback has a healthy track record in SF, fantasy and action flicks, with an eclectic CV that includes Die Hard 4.0, Race To Witch Mountain, the new Total Recall remake and Jack The Giant Killer.

So, will one of his tasks to be to cut back on how much of the movie is set in Japan? Or will clever rewrites mean that other locations could double as Japan?

The film is set to be directed by James Mangold (Walk The Line) after Darren Aronofsky left the project for personal reasons.

Okay, this is low budget, probably destined straight-for-DVD in the UK (hell, it doesn’t have a US release date yet) and doubtless the best thing about it will be the trailer… but, hey, killer robots! That’s what SF is all about. It’s written and directed by Christopher Hatton, who once upon a time wrote a couple of Star Trek: Next Gen episodes.

Sin City co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller (who also wrote the original comics) have hired Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) to rework the script for Sin City 2, working from a original draft by Miller, reports Heat Vision.

Miller said at Comic-Con last month that finance for the sequel was in place and shooting would begin as soon as a script was in suitable shape. Although there’s no definite news on the plot (or plots, if it’s going to have the same structure as the original) for the sequel, but Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter that actors playing characters that survived the first film are expected to return, and that because much of it is shot in pieces against green screen that scheduling shouldn’t be too difficult.

Monahan has also written the script for the Tom Cruise-starring SF project Oblivion* (being directed by Tron: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski) which is currently in preproduction at Universal.

* Or Horizon, or whatever it’s being called this month…

Mr Jackson is the perfect hitman: cold, calculating and professional. You see him and you die – don’t you? The film is 12 minutes long and was shot over three days in south London. Okay, so it doesn’t appear to be sci-fi, but the people in it have genre credentials to spare, so we thought you’d like a look-see. And here’s the official poster too:

Daniel Radcliffe in a spooky remake of TV movie that was adapted from a play that was adapted from a book. Are you following this?

It’s Clash Of The Titans meets 300 with cinema’s next Superman in the mix too. Immortals, directed by Tarsem (The Cell) Singh is released in the UK on 11 November.

We’re really not sure what to make of this one. The trailer’s as cheesy and schmaltzy as hell, but the film’s from writer/director Peter Hedges (who scripted What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and About A Boy) so maybe there’s a bit more to this film than it seems at the moment…

Shocking aliens in Moscow…

To be honest, we’re not entirely sure this new horror film from Francis Ford Coppola is an SFX film. Sure it’s about a horror writer, and there’s certainly some extreme weirdness going on in the trailer, but it could just be David Lynchian-esque weirdness – dreams, hallucinations. Check it out and see what you make of it… We were certainly amused by a cameo from a Mighty Boosh character.

This is actually the sizzle reel – not actually a trailer – from Comic-Con, but we’d feel silly putting “sizzle reel” in the headline. Anyway, what do you think? We reckon it looks quite promising.

Kate Bekinsale, who is currently shooting the Total Recall demake* (being directed by her husband, Len Wiseman) and who also recently finished production on Underworld: Awakening, reveals in a Comic-Con interview posted on Blastr, “This year has been the year of bruises for me. I seem to be getting hit every day.”

She goes on to explain: “And the bumps and bruises you get aren’t from the highly choreographed fight scenes and wire stuff. It’s never the impressive thing that gets you hurt. I fell over on the set of Total Recall because my shoes were slippy.”

She wasn’t able to reveal much about Total Recall. “It’s a massive movie and a whole different world. I have a really fun, horrible character. I’ve never really played the real villain before.”

As to why she returned to play Selene one more time, she revealed, “I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to continue exactly where we left off with the second one. It seemed like there needed to be more of an incentive to explore new stuff to make it worth it for us and audiences as well. There are lots of twists and turns and different characters. The world is very different, so it seemed like a good idea.”

In the new issue of SFX – #212, on sale Wednesday 27 July – there’s an  interview The Avengers movie scripter Zak Penn (X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk, Alphas) and here‘s an extract to whet your appetite:

According to Penn, The Avengers takes its inspiration not only from comic books, but from men-on-a-mission movies new and old.

“When you look at what The Avengers should be, the kind of story you’re looking at is much more like The Magnificent Seven or The Dirty Dozen. Even the recent reboot of Star Trek I thought did a really good job of bringing a bunch of different characters together on a mission.”

Of course any hero is only as good as his villain, and Penn tells us that the central plot of The Avengers is defined by its antagonist…

“In general the idea of ‘What would bring all these people together and how is that a problem?’ and ‘How are these people gonna work together?’ is what that story is about. But I can assure you that the movie will not be about Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and all the rest getting together to beat up some regular guy. It’s gonna be a big movie. The story is big.”

The Avengers will be released by Walt Disney Studios on 27 April 2012.

Intruders is the new horror movie from 28 Weeks Later’s Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (who’s a “visionary” according to the trailer). The cast includes Clive Owen, Ella Purnell, Kerry Fox, Carice van Houten and Daniel Brühl. It’s due for release in the UK on 27 January 2012.

This news may just make your head explode. According to Deadline, Dimension Films is developing a TV series based on David Cronenberg’s 1981 sci-fi horror classic Scanners. The Hills Have Eyes writer-director Alexandre Aja has been hired to executive produce the series and potentially direct the pilot, and Dimension is in talks with potential showrunners to create and run the series.

Originally, Dimension (which acquired the rights to the franchise a few years ago), had intended to produce a movie remake, with the ever-busy David (The Dark Knight) Goyer writing the script. But after the success of The Walking Dead, Dimension saw the potential for a TV series. Goyer is no longer involved in  the project.

The film involved a group of powerful telepaths and telekinetics – “scanners” –  intent on world domination, and the rebel scanner who tries to destroy their underground movement. And it’s most famous, of course, for that head-exploding scene.

So, what do you think? It’s all a bit serious isn’t is? And did we need another origin story? But the POV webswinging is cool, even if it does remind us of a certain Spider-Man game

It’s still looking like a remake to us… If it weren’t for the presence of Mary Elizabeth Winstead we’d probably be making this one of our Attack Of The Clones candidates…
