Exclusive: Karen Gillan Talks Superheroes

Karen Gillan’s spider-sense is tingling

Will we ever see Karen Gillan as Spider-Girl?

With the five-star Oculus currently scaring up British cinemas and Guardians Of The Galaxy due next month, Karen Gillan has been taking it anything but easy since Amy Pond got zapped by that Weeping Angel in Doctor Who. When we caught up with Gillan to talk about her spooky mirror horror, she also told us about her surprise cameo in “The Time Of The Doctor” and playing cyborg assassin Nebula in Guardians Of The Galaxy (read more in SFX 249, on sale now) – and we couldn’t resist the chance to ask her which superhero she’d like to play if she ever gets the chance…

If you could play a superhero, which one would you choose?
Yeah, who is there…? I want to play a version of Spider-Man that’s a lady.

Spider-Woman?
Spider-Woman – does she exist?

There’s a Spider-Woman and a Spider-Girl.
I want to play Spider-Girl!

So there you have it – Karen wants to play May “Mayday” Parker, aka Spider-Girl! Granted with her (usually) long red hair and tall frame, she’d make a most excellent Julia Carpenter (the second Spider-Woman). So Sony, if you’re reading and planning a big screen outing for Spider-Girl, you know who to ask…
