Dress as the Doctor and take a tour round the TARDIS in this Doctor Who themed update for PlayStation Home
We have to admit, we haven’t dilly-dallied around the PS3’s social network space Home (it’s kind of like Second Life, but with fewer NSFW penis-pummelings) since our fateful first hour spent largely queuing for a lane in the bowling alley; but a new set of Doctor Who-themed costumes, characters and environments coming to Home on 27 March has us excited about stepping into the shoes of our much-neglected avatars once again.
As well as Eleventh Doctor and River Song costumes, and a TARDIS-themed clubhouse (perfect for recording your own adventures in time and space, which can later be uploaded to YouTube) players can visit a Doctor Who-themed theatre for additional video content from BBC Worldwide and shop for Doctor Who items, both virtual and real.
“We’re really excited to be bringing this much-loved series to social and virtual worlds,” said Simon Hutson, senior vice president digital development at BBC Worldwide. “Discovering new ways to engage with our fans is incredibly important to us, especially as we approach DoctorWho’s 50th year.”
“We are committed to preserving the spirit and aesthetic of Doctor Who while introducing this historic franchise to PlayStation®Home” said David Sterling, vice president of business development, LOOT Entertainment. “It’s the same Doctor Who millions have loved for almost 50 years – with a virtual, interactive, and social twist.”
It’s not the universe-hopping Doctor Who RPG we all really want (far from it, it’s not even a game), but given the recent run of form Doctor Who videogames have had maybe that’s a good thing! Furthermore, to celebrate Who’s 50th Anniversary, additional Doctor Who themed virtual goods, environments and social experiences will be added to Doctor Who on PlayStation®Home throughout 2013.
