Matt Smith To Star In Ryan Gosling’s How To Catch A Monster

Doctor Who Matt Smith has landed himself a starring role in How To Catch A Monster, the feature film directorial debut of Drive actor Ryan Gosling.

According to Variety, Smith will join a cast that already includes Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes.

Weaving elements of fantasy noir and suspense and modern-day fairytale, How To Catch A Monster is set in the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city. Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive. Production is set to start this spring.

Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce on behalf of Marc Platt Prods, along with Gosling via his Phantasma Films banner, and Michel Litvak and David Lancaster via the Bold Films banner.

Cue a bunch of, “Matt Smith to leave Doctor Who” rumours, but to be honest, you can’t read too much into this. With Steven Moffat seemingly determined to produce as few episodes of Doctor Who per year as he can get away with, there are plenty of holes in the show’s schedule for Matt to pop across the Atlantic for filming. That’s not to say he hasn’t secretly handed in his psychic pass card, but let’s just wait and see, eh?
