Release Date For Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules
MGM and Paramount Pictures have announced that the Brett (X-Men: The Last Stand) Ratner-directed Hercules: The Thracian Wars, starring Dwayne Johnson, will be released on 8 August 2014.
The movie is an adaptation of the Radical graphic novels Hercules: The Thracian Wars and Hercules: The Knives Of Kush. We presume that the artist-formerly-known-as-the-Rock will be growing his hair.
The graphic novel was written by Steve Moore (2000 AD, Doctor Who Magazine comic strip). Production on the film is scheduled to start in early 2013. The film is a co-production between MGM Studios and Paramount Pictures.
The summary for the graphic novel reveals, “When the Thracian King summons the Greek hero and his six battle-worn companions to mold the Thracian army into a bloodthirsty, ruthless killing machine, the Son of Zeus rushes to answer the call of war and gold. But within the nation of Thrace lies an epic tale of war, murder, deception, and sacrifice that shows Hercules how far from grace he’s fallen – and what he must do to earn redemption.”
Hercules is the second Radical Studios project set to reach the big screen following the recent wrap on production on Oblivion. Oblivion is an original concept conceived by TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and developed by Radical Studios. The film stars Tom Cruise, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo. Oblivion is being distributed by Universal Pictures and is set for an IMAX release on 12 April 2013 IMAX and a worldwide release on 19 April 2013.
