Support The History Of Fighting Fantasy
There’s a kickstarter campaign for Jonathan Green’s celebration of 30 years of gamebooks
Jonathan Green with SFX last year.
Who among us does not have a nostalgic love of the Fighting Fantasy series? Created by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone in 1982, the famous gamebooks – starting with the wonderful The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain – became a bona fide cultural phenomenon as well as runaway bestsellers.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the series, and author Jonathan Green (himself a writer behind such Fighting Fantasy classics as Spellbreaker and Howl Of The Werewolf) is celebrating by creating the ultimate history of the franchise: You Are The Hero. You may recall that Green wrote a short history of Fighting Fantasy for SFX, available as part of our Fantasy: The Ultimate Celebration special edition. To finance this new in-depth documentary he has launched a Kickstarter campaign, which runs until 6 January.
The 25th anniversary edition of the 1982 classic.
Jonathan Green says, “I am a huge fan of Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and have written seven titles in the series to date. 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the publication of The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, and I want to mark the occasion by writing the definitive history of Fighting Fantasy. I’ve already interviewed Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone (as well as various authors, artists, editors and some well known fans of the series) and have some cool rewards lined up for backers.”
So check out the Kickstarter page if you’d like to pledge your support. It is hoped that the coffee table book will be published by Chronicle City. More information at the project’s home page.
