Bond: Could SPECTRE Return?

Here’s an interesting little snippet on the future of James Bond from our major Skyfall feature in SFX227 (on sale Wednesday 19 September).

In it – among many other things – we interview Bond producers and guardians of 007′s celluloid legacy Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who reveal a whole lot of great stuff about Skyfall. But tantalisingly they also tell us that they have the rights to bring back Blofeld and SPECTRE, cornerstones of big-screen Bond that vanished in legal battles for long decades… though don’t expect to see a bald guy stroking a cat any time soon.

“We believe we can use them. They’re a little dated at the moment. We went for the Quantum organisation [in the last two films], which was more business oriented, trying to corner the market on scarce resources, rather than a criminal organisation that did blackmail and bank robberies…”

“And since they were parodied in the Austin Powers films I think we need a little time to pass before we go back to extortion and blackmail!” laughs Broccoli. “The Quantum organisation does seem far more realistic.”
