Transformers 4 Will Feature New Robots So Hasbro Can Sell More Toys

Transformers 4 will feature a whole bunch of new robot characters because Transformers 3 – despite being a box office smash – didn’t sell enough toys for Hasbro.
According to Transformers fansite TFW2005 (and picked up on by Bleeding Cool), Hasbro boss Brian Goldner announced the new direction for Transformers 4 at the UBS Best Of Americas Conference (some banking and financial shindig). He also revealed that the current plan is for a 2014 release date.
Hasbro believes that a new cast of Autobots and Decepticons – which in turn means a whole new range of action figures to market – will boost the Transformers toys range. With Transformers 3 having largely the same robotic cast as the previous two movies, opportunities to create new toys were limited.
This doesn’t necessarily mean an “all-new” cast, though. We suspect some old favourites will be back.
Previous reports have suggested that Michael Bay will be back to direct Transformers 4, but a new director would take over on any further sequels if the reboot were successful.
