Director Reveals His (Failed) Daredevil Pitch To Fox

Although neither Marvel nor Fox have officially confirmed the story, Variety seems pretty certain now that the rights to a Daredevil movie will revert to Marvel because Fox couldn’t get a film into production in time.

Which could be (more) bad news for director Joe Carnahan, who pitched an idea for a Daredevil to Fox. Not just because Fox has – allegedly – lost the rights (a situation which Carnahan seems to confirm in his tweet: “DD pitch was tremendous and everyone flipped for it. The clock ticked down at Fox, that’s why it went t*ts up”) but because his pitch doesn’t look like it’d fit into Marvel’s shared universe very well…

How do we know? Because Carnahan posted to YouTube a couple of “sizzle reels” (clip montages) that he used in the pitch to give a feel for the angle he was aiming for.

That angle, it seems, was an early ’70s vibe – kinda Daredevil meets Shaft if we’re reading it right. Which sounds kinda cool if a little radical. But there’s no way that pitch is going to work for Marvel, surely?

Both sizzle reels are pretty similar except with different levels of violence.

What do you think? Is this the Daredevil film you’d like to have seen?
