Warners Approach Ben Affleck As Potential Justice League Director
News has spread like a Fenton video overnight on the internet that Warner Bros has sent Ben Affleck the Justice League movie script written by Will Beall… not for consideration for a role, but for consideration as director.
Let’s just underline – this does not mean Affleck is directing the Justice League movie… but he could be.
On the other hand, the news does indicate that Warners is serious about the getting the film made with a heavyweight director at the helm. Because with The Town and Argo both getting an overwhelming critical thumbs up, Affleck probably has more cache now as a director than an actor.
Having said that, he also starred in The Town and Argo, and has indicated that he only wants to direct films he stars in, so as The Chicago Tribune points out, if Affleck does say yes, he might also be suiting up again as a superhero for the first time since Daredevil… an experience he’s been none too complimentary about since, if that has any bearing on his decision. But if we were to see Affleck as one of the Justice League, who would he best suit? Batman? Superman? Green Lantern?
Another factor that may influence his decision is just how busy he may be. Affleck is currently also mulling over an offer to star in Greg Berlanti’s sci-fi thriller Replay, based on Ken Grimwood’s 1987 bestseller, about a man who dies and gets the chance to relive his life over and over again, changing partners and professions each time. Affleck is developing Stephen King’s The Stand as a big screen property. Would he give that up to spend – potentially – three or four years working on Justice League?
Besides which, we still reckon they should let Paul Dini be involved on some level…
