Forget about transport troubles, the Olympics was the cause of another kind of gridlock this weekend – a digital gridlock as the entire interwebs took to Twitter to comment on just how weird Danny Boyle’s exemplary opening ceremony was and ask: “When’s The Doctor showing up?” Sadly he didn’t (except in sound effect form), which means the 2012 Olympics can’t be considered Canon anymore. We must be in the wrong reality…

In barely-related news the Olympics was the catalyst for this tweet by celebrated Batman scribe Paul Dini:

@Paul_Dini Kinda hoped I’d be doing another Arkham game in London during the Olympics. Esp, as I had a good source for tx. Ah, well.

Usually such musings wouldn’t give us pause for thought. However, it does give weight to this recent claim that Rocksteady’s next Batman game won’t continue the story established in Batman: Arkham City, but will instead be a standalone Silver-Age story about the first meeting of Batman and The Joker. Of course, it’s difficult to imagine Rocksteady not inviting Dini back to work on such a game given the success of their past two collaborations, and there’s every chance that Dini is bluffing. What seems more likely is that, for whatever reason, production on their next game isn’t at the script stage yet (perhaps they’re getting to grips with next-gen hardware?) or that Rocksteady is taking a Christopher Nolan-esque break from the Dark Knight. Let the rampant speculation begin!
