Rumour: James Cameron To Film 3 Avatar Sequels In A Row?
Actors aren’t always the most trustworthy of sources (it’s not that they tell fibs, it’s more that they’re not always quite as much in the loop as they think they are), but if Sigourney Weaver is to be believed, then James Cameron is planning on filming Avatar 2, 3 and 4 in a row.
She reveals this titbit in an interview with Showbiz411. According to the article, “When Political Animals finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films Avatar 2, 3 and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. ‘I just show up,’ she said.”
This ties in with a previous interview with James Cameron in the New York Times back in May when the Avatar director said, “I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts. And that all sounds I suppose a little bit restricted, but the point is I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way.”
Back then, we thought talk of Avatar 4 was possibly wishful thinking, but maybe not.
So, do you fancy the idea of three Avatar sequels released in a short space of time? Or will you be suffering Avatar overload?
