Just got The Prefect by Alastair Reynolds and the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Guilty Pleasures (HC) from Marvel/Dabel Brothers.

Can't wait to start The Prefect. Alastair is a true master of the space opera, his stories are never boring!

Can anyone recommend other writers that are similar? I've heard of Peter F Hamilton, but have never read any of his books. Which one should I start with?

Thanks...

If you're a big fan of space opera, I'd jump straight into The Night's Dawn Trilogy, which is huge and gobsmacking. Do bear in mind that the series as a whole tops 3000 pages, but it needs it for a story with that scope...

'How to Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way'.

I was sold on the title alone. Hail to the king, baby.

Visited Hay on Wye on Sunday… came back with 19 books

Since then I've also bought another three second-hand books, someone should stop me.

During my internet free months and under duress from my buds at work when the last book was released, I finally bought Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It was really good! Now I just have to read the rest of the books while trying to avoid any spoilers.

Taking advantage of the last few days of Borders 'Buy one, get one half price' on SF&F, I bought Ursula Le Guin's compendium of her first three Hainish novels, Worlds of Exile and Illusion and Jack Vance's Tales of the Dying Earth. Oh, and I forgot to mention a while ago that while buying Christopher Priest's The Prestige for a friend's birthday I fortuitously also got Ian McDonald's River of Gods on the same offer.

Charlie Higson's latest Young Bond book Hurricane Gold. I was going to wait for the paperback but I found it half price. That and I saved a bit of money by winning a copy of Mike Carey's Dead Men's Boots in one of Deornoth's little compys!
