The 10 Most Controversial Series Finales
ALF, “Consider Me Gone”
One from the archives, this, but if you were a fan of ALF (aka Alien Life Form), chances are you’re still smarting from the way this sitcom chose to wrap everything up. Since when do fluffy US comedies end in tragedy?
The entire focus of ALF‘s four-year run was on ALF’s attempts to evade capture by an Alien Task Force, who were determined to grab his wisecracking extra-terrestrial butt and dissect the crap out of it. Hilarity and hi-jinks often ensued, with ALF hiding out with the good Tanner family and joking around in the way only he could. But “Consider Me Gone”’s final shot saw the unfortunate alien surrounded by his pursuers with no means of escape!
Okay, so it wasn’t intended to be our final image of ALF, but the show’s cancellation ensured it would be (a few rubbish TV movies aside). Poor little guy… we hope they used anaesthetic, at least.
