Is Eddie Izzard The New Grandpa Munster?

It may sound bizarre, but according to TVLine – usually a pretty trusted source of information – the genius that is Eddie Izzard is nearing a deal to play Grandpa in the high profile pilot for The Munsters reboot, which is now being called Mockingbird Lane.

This is the new “darker” version of the ’60s sitcom, being reimagined by Bryan (Pushing Daisies) Fuller and Bryan (X-Men) Singer for NBC as an hour-long comedy drama.

Izzard does, of course, have experience in US TV drama, having starred in two seasons of The Riches from 2007-8 for the FX channel. But considering his stand-up past, could we really be seeing a sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania? Probably not, but it’s a gag too good to pass up the opportunity.

Let’s hope the negotiations work out! Although – Izzard as Grandpa? Is he really that old? Still, vampires don’t age, do they?
