Monty Python’s Animated Sci-Fi Circus
Pythons teaming up to voice aliens in Absolutely Anything
Former Monty Python mad men John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin are reteaming to voice some animated aliens in Absolutely Anything, a sci fi farce combining CGI and live action. Terry Jones is directing, reports Variety.
“It’s not a Monty Python picture, but it certainly has that sensibility,” Jones tells the industry magazine.
The Pythons will voice a group of aliens who endow an earthling with the power to do “absolutely anything” to see what a mess he’ll make of things. There will also be a talking dog called Dennis – to be voiced by Robin Williams – who seems to understand more about the mayhem that ensues than anyone else.
The script has been written by Jones and Gavin Scott (the former That’s Life presenter who went on to script Small Soldiers and the 1997 The Borrowers film). Shooting should begin in the UK this spring. Jones tells Variety that Gilliam and Python members John Cleese and Michael Palin have agreed to perform and added that producers are attempting to sign Eric Idle.
Jones last directed Wind In The Willows in 1996.
Producer Mike Medavoy reckons, “Terry and Gavin have crafted a classic farce – something I feel I know a little bit about after all the Pink Panther pictures we did with Blake Edwards at United Artists. In fact, the movie even has a pompous Frenchman reminiscent of Inspector Clouseau, but there the similarity ends. Like all projects originated by any of the Monty Python guys, Absolutely Anything delightfully defies a logline.”
