Glee To Resurrect Star Wars Christmas Special

But will the kids be singing the original songs?

Here we have the award for most bizarre news story of the week (surely nothing will beat it before Friday, unless Steven Moffat reveals he’s making a Kamelion spin-off series starring Matthew Waterhouse). You may have thought that George Lucas would want the infamous 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special – a generally embarrassing music, comedy and dance “spectacular” produced for CBS TV in 1978 – to be buried, forgotten and banished from YouTube (uploaded from dodgy sixth generation VHS copies), but apparently not. Because presumably somebody at Lucasfilm has given the thumbs up for Glee to resurrect it for this year’s Christmas special.

Quite what form this resurrection will take is not yet clear, but TVGuide reports that the show’s star, Matthew Morrison — who also directs the Christmas episode — has revealed, “We’re doing a Christmas special within the episode of Glee and it’s a throwback and a tribute to the Star Wars holiday special and the Judy Garland Christmas special.”

Members of the cast have already Tweeted pics of Chewbacca on set, but Morrison says that Chewie will not be singing. But how about R2-D2 and Artie performing a dance number?
