CGI Starship Troopers For DVD and Blu-Ray

Starship Troopers: Invasion will continue the story of the 1997 Paul Verhoeven movie

Starship Troopers 4 coming to DVD and Blu-ray

Sony is to produce an animated Starship Troopers movie for release on DVD and Blu-ray next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Starship Troopers: Invasion will be the fourth instalment of the franchise, following two live action straight-to-DVD movies that may have (mercifully) slipped your attention – Starship Troopers 2: Hero Of The Federation in 2004 and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder in 2008. There was also, of course, Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles, a CGI TV series that ran from 199-2000.

The new CGI movies has two of the original film’s personnel involved as executive producers: writer Edward Neumeier and actor Casper Van Dien. Manga veteran Shinji Aramaki, who helmed Appleseed and Appleseed Ex-Machina is directing the project, which is now in production. The movie may even get a theatrical release in Japan, and some screenings at festivals before its home entertainment release.

The plot will concentrate on a mission to rescue Carl Jenkins – the intelligence officer played by Neil Patrick Harris in the 1997 movie.

Universal, meanwhile, has another Scorpion King movie set for the DVD and Blu-ray market. Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption promises, “lavish production values including an army of warrior elephants and astounding battle sequences featuring a myriad of martial arts and swordfight sequences”. Victor Webster will play Mathayus (the Dwayne Johnson character in the 2003 film) and features Ron Perlman as the god Horus and Billy Zane as the villain.
