Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week
Steven Ellis presents the first in a new weekly feature for those of you who want to build your collections on the cheap
In this time of economic uncertainty we all want to save a little, but we still need our sci-fi fixes don’t we? So we, the ever vigilant SFX, have made it our mission to bring you a weekly selection of bargains with a Sci-fi twist.
This week we’re going to bring you a selection of TV boxed sets going at rock bottom prices.
First we have a classic Doctor Who DVD boxed set available from Amazon for under a tenner. The set features two complete Cybermen stories: “Revenge Of The Cybermen” from the Tom Baker era and “Silver Nemesis” featuring Sylvester McCoy. With a combined running time of over 170 minutes, cast commentaries and a host of behind the scenes goodies this is perfect for anyone wanting to know a little bit more about the Cybermen before they got their Nu Who revamp. It’s yours for just £9:97. Offer ends midnight Sunday.
Next up we have the original Kolchack: The Night Stalker complete television series from 1974. Often credited as the inspiration for the popular television series The X-Files this series follows the supernatural investigations of Chicago news reporter Carl Kolchak. From aliens to vampires and Jack the Ripper the series covers most of the classic monster myths and ideas in its own grim way. Definitely one for the fan of classic horror. And a snip at £7:49. As above this offer ends midnight Sunday.
Our third TV bargain is a load of Buffy The Vampire Slayer character selections. CD Wow has DVD sets dedicated to Angel, Giles, Willow, Faith and a host of others. The sets each include four episodes of the series featuring the named characters best moments. Perfect little snippets of your favourite characters from the Buffyverse on DVD if you’re like me and you never got round to replacing all those damn video boxsets. Each set is currently selling for £2:79.
Bizarre suggestion of the week is a multi buy offer from Toys R Us. Buy two or more of any Transformers Dark of The Moon merchandise and you get 25% off. The film might not have been up to much but who doesn’t want an Optimus Prime mask or a plastic Sword of Energon to run around in the rain with? There are plenty of transforming robot models there too for those who like the more fiddly toys. Get ‘em while stocks last.
If anyone out there spots a sci-fi bargain they want to share then please pop over to the forum and mention it in the relevant thread. This thread is for bargain films and this one is for TV bargains. Keep your eyes peeled for great offers for your fellow geek and maybe your bargain discovery will be in the bargain list next time.
