William Shatner Talks To Metal Hammer
Well, the sci-fi legend is releasing a rock album. It had to happen
On the verge of releasing his first RAWK album, Searching For Major Tom, William Shatner has been talking to SFX’s sister mag, Metal Hammer, about how his eyes were opened to the beauty of heavy metal. Which means he must now officially be a Rock God. Amongst all his other titles.
“As I began to listen with enthusiasm to rock ’n’ roll, this sound called ‘heavy metal’ began to intrude, and the thought was, ‘this is the next level of dissent’,” says the actor on his first encounters with metal. “And now, having done some of the heavy metal songs, I realise what it’s all about, which is the energy, the passion, and I’m slowly evolving my musical taste, as a result of the work I’m doing.”
The album sees Shatner working with such rock legends as Zakk Wylde, Michael Schenker and Ritche Blackmore, and features cover versions of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” among others.
