Major Movie Directors Set For US TV Pilots

Deep Impact and Dawn Treader helmers will call the shots on new fantasy shows

Two major movie directors have landed jobs on two telefantasy TV pilots going before the cameras this year.

Mimi Leder, who directed 1998’s Deep Impact, will be calling the shots on The CW’s Heavenly, a show about a dedicated young female attorney and a former angel-turned-human who tackle cases together. Leder has previously directed six pilots that have subsequently been commissioned, so that’s a good omen.

Over at ABC, The World Is Not Enough and Voyage Of The Dawn Treader director Michael Apted will be trying to create a series-worthy pilot out of Hallelujah. This one’s about a town, Hallelujah, Tennessee, which is being torn apart by the forces of good and evil and whose fortunes change when a stranger comes to town, bringing justice, peace and possibly restoring faith. LA Law’s Jesse L Martin has already been cast in this one.
