  • Set your telly box to Chuck on Virgin 1 at 9pm, or take the chance to rewatch Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as the first series continues on CBS Action, Monday to Friday at 8pm
  • Or, if you prefer your viewing supplied on some kind of shiny disc, you can check out Doctor Who: series five, volume three (Sontarans and the Dream Lord), anime Pet Shop Of Horrors and psycho drama Shelter.

TUESDAY 3 AUGUST

  • The ninth (ninth!) season of Smallville continues on E4 at 9pm.

  • Ghost Whisperer is back on Living tonight at 9pm.

THURSDAY 5 AUGUST

  • Give your ears a treat with BBC Audiobooks Doctor Who readings of Peter Davison adventure The Awakening and original Eleventh Doctor tale Ring Of Steel, or do the same for your eyes with Todd McCaffrey’s Dragonheart sequel Dragongirl, and Jeff Somers’ The Terminal State.
  • The Edinburgh Fringe Festival gets underway.

  • Medium‘s sixth season continues on Living at 9pm.
  • Adrian Tchaikovsky continues his Shadows Of The Apt series with The Scarab Path, in bookshops today.
  • Northampton goes a little Deep South as True Blood comes to town for three days of Bitten.

SATURDAY 7 AUGUST

  • Simon Bisley and Peter Milligan sign their John Constantine story Hellblazer: Hooked at London’s Forbidden Planet.
  • There’s a Dalek Invasion in Somerset.
