God! Batman was on the verge of recovering from Batman and Robin and then Kevin Smith had to go and ruin it! now no one will take Batman seriously again! i would probably find it funny if it were a parody but in canon?!!!

don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with wetting you're pants i had to wear nappies at school (from 1st year to last) but it's so out of character for batman!!!

Well there we have it. I stand Corrected. Thanks, Richard, for your thorough rebuttal of my comments. Critically acclaimed, eh? That showed me ;)

In all seriousness, if you're not already familiar with them, please take a look at either The Slavers or Widowmaker from Garth Ennis' phenomenal run on the series for stories that take the character seriously and mean what they say when they're labelled 'mature'. You won't regret reading them. Promise.

Sorry, what thread are we on...? Oh yeah. I'd imagine Bats runs around with some of those thin plastic nappy-sack things the SAS in deserts and private-eyes camped out in your attic are supposed to use. Most evenings i imagine you'll find him crouched amongst a group of gargoyle embellished chimney stacks, trying not to slip on the tiles while he carefully holds that billowing cape out of the way....I wonder if that's how his undies ended up on the wrong side of his tights to begin with.... ;)

Batman wetting himself?
WTF was anyone who professes to be any sort of a comic fan thinking when they came up with that?
I just don't know who to blame most, the moron that came up with it, or the idiot who gave it the ok to print.

Umm, PunisherMax is critically acclaimed and the current run is just unbeatable, Kingpin's rise to power, and Bullseye's wickedness are compelling as hell, especially since Kingpin now wants Bullseye GONE. It is quite simple Awesome.

Go back to smoking with your mate Kevin. ;)

Ooooh, down, rabid Batfans! This made me laugh. Smith is a comedy writer. Job done.

Couple of points: Richard L. Lifting highly spurious quotes from Wikipedia (which anyone can edit and given the crap that Smith's getting over this, there'd be good reason to be wary of this quote) doesn't really help your case. Can you quote the original source?

Also, personal opinion, PunisherMax is one of the shining examples of creative bankruptcy in comics today, recycling ten year old themes and ideas with ever degrading quality, having protagonists act out of character to progress the plot and mistaking graphic violence for mature storytelling. At least Smith appears to be trying something new.

Of course, if it's taken 70 years for toilet humour to be "something new" then the industry's in real trouble.....

You remember 'Jersey Girl' ? I saw that at the cinema, and really really enjoyed it.
So I don't follow the herd, but the guy at the comic book store got me collecting 4 issues of this toss Batman comic, and kept promising every month that it was going to get really good. I think he was just offloading this shit frankly.

Now I only purchase PunisherMax and Hellblazer.

Just thought I'd add this in the interest of balance. Kevin Smith has made a lot of shite lately. Now he's lost it. In retrospect I should have guessed he was a junkie when Bruce and Silver were OVERHEARD having sex. LAME! Or the way the plot jumps around in a disjointed way, and never shows a decent battle, always just aftermaths with lame teen jokes.

Smith has described how he creates the scripts. Following Zack and Miri Make a Porno, he had "a sort of nervous breakdown, or as close to a mid-life crisis" and started heavily smoking cannabis, which, he claims, has contributed to his writing of the series[2]:
“ I’m not telling you anything new…I’m far more creative now, you know. I’ve been writing this Batman: The Widening Gyre miniseries, and I’m stoned all the time when I’m writing it. And, I swear, I’ll write it, and then, it’s not so much blackout, but forget, so much so that the next morning, I go to read what I wrote, and it’s, like, I’m that fuckin’ little cobbler and elves came and fuckin' wrote it in the night, because I’m, like, "This is better than anything I’ve ever written before." I mean, like, I’ve done comics, but this is way better.

I really wouldn't worry, fellow Bat-fans. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is reading The Widening Gyre.

Seriously, I'm surprised this even got out.
