On the whole, I found the Lulu experience to be quite a good one; although, sadly, I've heard they have slipped a little in recent months.

I published my first novel with them at the beginning of the year, and with an ISBN I was able to have it stocked at Amazon, Book Depository and other online retailers. The book has even found its way into a number of branches of Waterstone's in the London area.

The book is a science fiction novel, called "The Honour of the Knights" for anyone who might be interested. Signed copies are available in Waterstone's. Sample chapters on the website: www.battleforthesolarsystem.com

Nice interview, though I would have liked to see a little more information on the costs involved.

I've picked up Rodger's "Yellow Dawn" RPG and two of his novels; "Edge" and "God Seed". I know that self-publishing has a rep as being the home of the unpublishable, but Rodger's work is excellent, high quality stuff. His RPG world is detailed, original and beautifully worked out, and his novels are so gripping and scary that I've had to force myself to put them down in order to take care of things like eating and sleeping.

Having read all of David's novels I can attest to this man's amazing talent.

I opened Edge and read the whole book straight threw, it was fabulous and still haunts my dreams/mares.

A quick warning - I recently had some serious quality control issues with Lulu on some portfolio books of mine, and it took an age to sort out.

It's possible to be published via Lulu at no cost to you, aside from buying copies of your own book. I too have a book on Lulu (see link) and it's certainly a great idea given how difficult the regular publishing route is to get into sometimes.

Interesting article. Will have to track down some of his work.

Only one thing wrong with this piece - no mention of how much it costs to self-publish.
