BLOG Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II

Robot Chick Star Wars is brilliant. Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II? Blogger Kell Harker reckons that’s brilliant too…

Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II

I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. Honestly, who isn’t? So anyone with a fond appreciation for the franchise should be legally obligated to love Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. And if you won’t take this blogger’s recommendation, you should respect the views of George Lucas himself (check out the Skywalker Ranch Premiere in the DVD Special Features). This fast-moving sketch show has jokes in full supply, featuring parodies of our favourite Star Wars characters using stop-motion action figures. You’ll even get to see inside the pit of the Sarlacc’s stomach. Has Christmas come early?! No. But watching this DVD has certainly filled me with joy.

There’s no denying that comedians Seth Green and Mathew Senreich along with co-head writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root know how to write funny. Just try to watch the first sketch of Boba Fett massacring the Ewoks with his not one, but two lightsabers, without laughing out loud. C’mon. I dare ya.

This follow-up to 2007 Robot Chicken: Star Wars is clearly more heavily themed on the dark side of the Force. It highlights parodies of the bounty hunters (obviously with more attention on Boba Fett because he’s the best bounty hunter in the league), Darth Vader (I’ve always wondered if he’d need a straw to drink through his helmet…), AT-AT races, Emperor Palpatine (who has some of the funniest skits, and the best hair), and the idea of a Galactic Empire “Take-Your-Daughter-to-Work-Day” is pure hilarity.

But don’t worry, there’s also plenty of Han Solo (or should I say, “Hans Olo”), Admiral Akbar, and R2-D2, too. To be honest, I think Emperor Palpatine is the (Death) star of this Robot Chicken Episode. Geddit? He’s a star… Death Star. “Ooooh snap!” Okay, I might not be funny, but this DVD certainly is.

There’s no skimping on the awesomeness: there are even Star Wars special guest voices Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Ahmed Best. It really is quite thrilling to hear Billy Dee Williams saying “f*ck” so many times in the Special Features. Speaking of which, there are tons including: The Making of Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II, Video Blogs, Alternate Audio, Trailers and Commentaries, Animation Meetings, video from the Skywalker Ranch Premiere, and many, many more. For full viewing pleasure, I also highly recommend watching the Special Extended Edition. I also suggest watching it repeatedly. Don’t worry, there’s no shame in doing so.

Robot Chicken: Episode II is in every way, “Bigger, Better, Badder!” Hmm, just like Boba Fett is to Han Solo. Again, “Ooooh snap!”
