BLOG Report from Hi-Ex comics expo
Did you head to Inverness for the comic expo last weekend? Stacey Whittle did, and here’s what she told us about the event:
Comic Cons are full of passion and Hi-Ex in Inverness more so then most. Held at Eden Court over Valentines weekend it was a perfect romantic getaway for geeks.
“Why passion?” I hear you not asking at all, but here’s me telling you anyway…
From a group of comic fans making the 2000AD film that they want to see in “Judge Minty a Fan Film” (with a 100%-more-convincing costume then Stallone’s) to listening to Dave Evans wax lyrical about Zarjaz and Pat Mills. Passion from Terry Martin from Murky Depths as he explains what he’s trying to achieve with his ‘zine/anthology. All of the passion that all of the small press tables ooze for their products and indeed comics in general. Watching artist Leigh Gallagher declare his hero worship for comic legend Alan Grant in the middle of a panel about zombies. All of the people who travelled all the way to Inverness to be a part of this spectacular event! The passion displayed in the bar on Saturday night by amateurs and professionals alike for drawing, ahem, male genitalia and giggling like school kids.
But most of all, passion displayed by the organisers Vicky Stonebridge and Richmond Clements for their dedication to the charity Children 1st and for putting on a simply marvellous convention. If UK comic cons were to be described by body parts then Hi Ex would be the heart. I hate to think how overcome with passion I would be if we’d been able to stay for the Sunday!
You can find out more about last weekend’s Hi-Ex here. This blog was written by Stacey Whittle, one of our new volunteer bloggers who’ll begin contributing in earnest later in the month. Read more about her and other contributors in the next issue of SFX, on sale Wednesday 11 March.
